Night at the Museum

R-Rex Dinosaur Skeleton, Oxford Museum of Natural History

The Oxford University Museum of Natural History opened its doors to a spectacular sound and light show in celebration of the museum’s 150th Anniversary. The T-Rex centrepiece was dramatically lit while a soundtrack of famous voices and excited children told of their fascination with this wonderful building. See my gallery of museum dinosaur pictures.

Hidden at the back of the lower gallery lies the entrance to a second, smaller museum that is often overlooked by visitors to Oxford. The Pitt Rivers was founded in 1884 and houses a collection of curiosities from around the world, many donated by early anthropologists and explorers. Visiting by torchlight on this late night opening added all the more atmosphere, especially when you find shrunken heads staring back at you through the gloom!
